Madewell mini leather skirt (burgundy), here

I took it home with $117.60. (after an extra 20% off all sale items, and 30% off entrire purchases)

It was $895, but on sale at $537. I expect an extra 40% off at the day after Christmas (fingers crossed).

It might not be fair to compare Madewell to Burberry, but I would like to focus on the skirt itself rather than the brand. It is not easy to capture the color at my home, so please refer the above pictures for the real colors. Madewell skirt is burgundy, which is brighter than the Burberry one (mauve pink, between purple and brown to me). The length of Madewell skirt, 16 1/2 '', is slightly shorter than the Burberry one (18 1/2 ''). Style is different too, mini vs. pleated. Price wise, I got the Madewell mini with $117, a fraction of the Burberry one even if there is an extra discount later. Size wise, Madewell mini is size 0 (27'' waist), fitting me well if I tuck a sweater in; the Burberry one is size 6, with an elastic waist of 25 '' (without stretch). Burberry brit skirts run small this year! A size 4 Burberry might fit me better, which I haven't gotten a chance to try (don't want to pay $12 shipping). With a belt, I have no problem to handle this size 6 skirt.

Quality wise, it is hard to say which one is better. Both of them are made with extremely soft leather and fully lined. The Burberry skirt is slightly thicker (heavier) than the Madewell mini, and has a slightly better lining. The elastic waist is definitely the downside of this Burberry skirt.
Although the Madewell mini skirt is final sale, I won't see any problem to sell it on ebay to get my money back; the Burberry one I just tried it to capture couple pictures, so I will be able to send it back. Dear readers, which one should I keep? I am desperately looking for a nice leather skirt for cold days, and holidays as well. Considering my age and figure, which of them is better for me? Thank you very much!

Thank you again for your reading and I am looking forward to hearing from you!

  1. Both look good on you. The Burberry one is more dressy and MW one is clean and versatile.

Given you got the MW one with an extremely good price, I'd say keeping both. It can be an everyday wear for sure. :-) Keep the burberry one for holiday parties & events.

  2. I personally like the Burberry one better, color and style wise. Prefer pleated than mini.
BTW, they both look gorgeous on you!

    1. Dear, you always like elegant pieces rather than cute ones. How was your day in the city?

  3. Both skirts are pretty, but I would say the Burberry one fits you better. By the way, do you know where I can get a similar deal for the Madewell one? Thanks a lot!

    1. I bought 2 days ago (http://www.fabbylife.com/2012/12/burgundy-leather-skirt-from-madewell.html).

It is on sale online, so you can get price adjustment in store. There is an extra 20% off sale items, plus 30% off entire purchase. I bought from a store in Boston, while my girlfriend in Ohio told me there was no extra 20% there. Better check your local store.

thank you for your reply. If I decided to keep the Burberry one, will sell Madewell mini to get money back :)

    2. Hi there, if you do decide to keep the Burberry one, is there any chance that you could sell the Madewell one to me? (I live in the Chicago area, and will certainly pay for the shipping :) Thanks again!!
